Let’s Advance Learning

Today we stand at a pivotal moment in education as we as a community collectively grapple with the best path forward to ensure that learners continue to have access to a robust, quality education in the midst of this global pandemic. Now more than ever, it’s important for us to come together to share, to learn from one another, and to leverage technology and data to make informed decisions.

At Blackboard, we are deeply passionate about education – it’s in our DNA – because we know education has the power to transform individual lives and societies. And we’re proud of the work that we’re doing side-by-side with you, the education community, to expand access to education. What you’ve been able to accomplish in the past few months is nothing short of incredible. In California, the Los Angeles Unified School District was able to connect with thousands of families with no access to the Internet leveraging our messaging tool. In the United Kingdom, Brunel University London provided new training for more than 1,000 medical workers in dire need during the peak of the Coronavirus impact. And in Texas, Sam Houston State University in under a week transitioned 3,000 face-to-face classes to remote instruction and hosted 3,100 virtual classroom sessions.

We’ve been on a journey over the past few years – simplifying and focusing our business to ensure that we are positioned to be the partner you need for the future, leading the next wave of EdTech innovation. Today, we’re unveiling an updated mission statement that reflects our passion and commitment to learners, educators and institutional success.

It’s a culmination of our reflections on who we are, the journey we’ve been on, and our focus going forward. Our commitment to advancing learning means that we are focused as a company on connecting our deep understanding of education with the power of technology to continuously push the boundaries of how learning can be achieved and toward better learning outcomes.

One of the ways we are advancing learning today is through research that’s focused on the student. We are conducting qualitative research that gives us rich insights into student behaviors, their journey, and needs pertaining to technology.

Another way we are working to advance learning is by sharing the best practices and knowledge with the education community that we glean through our extensive work with some of the world’s leading institutions around the globe. Today we’re excited to launch our Best Practices Exchange, a site dedicated to proven strategies and data-driven insights. Here, you can find resources like our Quality Learning Matrix, a guide for building, sustaining and growing your technology-powered learning experiences, and our Accessibility Checklist.

To advance learning, we also must have our sights set on the future. Today more than ever, this is critical. At BbWorld this week, we look forward to sharing exciting new announcements that showcase how we are continuing to drive innovation in EdTech. Tune in for more details.

As I said earlier, we’ve been on a multi-year journey as a company. We’ve been focused on putting in place the right ingredients to deliver a user experience that is increasingly personalized, dynamic and fueled by data. I’m so proud of the significant progress we’ve made in laying the foundation.

We’ve moved our products and are helping our clients transition to SaaS. We’ve developed a software platform architecture to enable a seamless user experience across our portfolio. We’ve developed a data platform to aggregate and secure data from across your ecosystem, which will give you the insights you need, and deserve. And we’ve established a mobile presence to meet users where they are—which our data shows is especially important in the new normal. And today, in partnership with you, we’re working to understand the next wave of use cases that can most benefit from insights and personalization.

No matter what your challenges are today and tomorrow, or where you are in your journey, we are committed to your success, and your learners’ success. We pledge that we will be with you every step of the way to overcome your challenges today and help you prepare for tomorrow. Together, let’s advance learning.
