Blackboard Clients Recognized at 2018 WebAwards

If I ask new or prospective Blackboard clients to describe their vision for their new website, I often hear the words “award winning” included in their list of goals. We all know it’s exhilarating to be on the receiving end of accolades or recognition, but industry awards are about much more than the warm fuzzy feelings we get when our name is called. Recognition for an exceptional web presence provides lucrative marketing opportunities, a competitive advantage, and shows your target audience that you understand the importance of a great user experience. A shiny gold trophy is just icing on the cake.

Every year, the Blackboard K-12 Creative Services team enters the Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards Competition. The program recognizes the best websites in 96 industries, while setting the standard of excellence for all website development. Each site is judged on the following seven criteria on a scale of 0-10 points:

  • Design
  • Innovation
  • Content
  • Technology
  • Interactivity
  • Copywriting
  • Ease of Use

Winners for the 2018 WebAwards were announced in September and Blackboard is proud that its website clients were recognized in the following categories:

Outstanding Website, Education Category

Liberty Public Schools
Outstanding Website, School Category

Reading School District
School Standard of Excellence, School Category

With web presence being a top priority for almost any school, business or organization in today’s technology driven world, it can be difficult to stand out from the competition.What is it that makes a website better than similar sites in the same industry? The answer is both simple and complex.

Though each entry is judged on a variety of criteria ranging from design to content to interactivity, the overarching theme is user experience. A visually attractive website that is difficult to navigate is no better than a boring or unattractive website with well-organized content. Target audience, branding, content organization, hierarchy, innovation, creativity, responsiveness and accessibility are just a few of the key areas we focus on when designing a website.
