We are dedicated to partnering with institutions that share our vision for education: those that take a more strategic approach to online learning and look beyond immediate needs and into what will be needed five or ten years down the road. Working with forward-thinking universities to help them provide students with a holistic educational environment focused on student achievement and success gives us great gratification.

Today, we announced the latest school that shares this vision.  The University of Windsor has joined the Blackboard family and will replace its current Sakai LMS platform with our comprehensive learning environment. After looking at other LMS providers, officials cited our innovative and unique product road map, unmatched industry leadership, and robust student and faculty assessment tools, as the top reasons why they chose us.  We will be helping Windsor meet their objectives by providing a complete, innovative set of solutions vs. a single platform or product.

Dr. Alan Wright, the vice-provost of teaching and learning at the University stated:

We need to invest in technologies that facilitate new ways of teaching and learning and align with the strategic directions of the University. We also strive to provide our students with an education that equips them for the challenges they will face beyond the walls of the institute. Digital literacy, contemporary communication capabilities, and independent learning are all key elements of that preparation that Blackboard can help us facilitate.”

We are seeing more and more schools take a similar approach and embrace the idea of combining the traditional nature of education with the expanding access and engagement that technology provides. Bala Kathiresan, the executive director of IT services for the University said:

“The power of the Blackboard platform will allow us to engage a new audience for our courses, and to support our students, who may be anywhere in the world, helping to break down the barriers of geography and access. With Blackboard’s platform, instructors will be able to imagine and achieve new ways of engaging students with online and blended learning.”

I am personally very enthusiastic about today’s announcement. I am excited to continue to see Blackboard develop stronger relationships with both existing and new customers and help them pave the way for a new era in education.
