The Education Technology Hub in Greater Washington

Blackboard is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and during the past decade some 20 education technology companies have been established in the greater Washington area, which includes the northern area of Virginia and parts of Maryland.

The Washington Post recently reported on this growing sector of the local economy in an article written by Zachary A. Goldfarb titled “The ABCs of Fast Growth: Area Tech Firms Plug into Education.”

Although Goldfarb’s article covers the business of e-Learning more than the processes, I thought as comparative information it might interest folks familiar with the various tech hubs across the country: Silicon Valley and “Silicon Alley” (in NYC), Seattle, Denver, Austin, or the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina.

Also, Goldfarb touches on how administrators at Fairfax County Public Schools, a K-12 district in Virginia, are using technology such as BlackBerrys to facilitate their work.
