Are Your Learners Engaged?

Since 1997 the Gallup Organization has surveyed more than 5 million corporate employees with a simple list of 12 questions (called the Q12) to determine whether they are engaged, not engaged, or actively disengaged with their jobs. Not surprisingly, companies with high Q12 scores experience lower turnover, higher sales growth, better productivity, and better customer loyalty.

Corporate education professionals have the power to better understand how engaged their learners are by asking the right questions. Furthermore, engaged learners can help engage other learners, but actively disengaged learners can negatively impact the experience for everyone. Knowing how engaged your learners are can help you modify your program strategies and tactics to get everyone more engaged.

Since we’re talking about engagement, it’s time to engage you. Are there questions you regularly ask your learners to determine how engaged they are? Do you have a formal process for surveying them? If so, we’d like to hear about them. Post your ideas in the comment section below and we’ll share them in a later post.
