I am a Senior Product Manager here at Blackboard and today I am extremely excited to tell you about our newest product release, Blackboard Drive™
! Blackboard Drive is now part of the Content Management Module license and today we are releasing Blackboard Drive for Windows®
Blackboard Drive is the simple, user-friendly way to work with file based content in the Content Management module. I know it is really going to benefit users and the IT staff and I am looking forward to hearing what clients think.
Let me begin with why we are launching Blackboard Drive in the first place. The Content Management module can provide users with increased efficiencies through centralized management of content in the learning system and anytime-anywhere web based access. To leverage these benefits at scale you need to overcome the hurdles of user adoption. With Blackboard Drive we think we found the solution. It is simple and intuitive for users (which will drive usage) and provides a more consistent and reliable experience than we were able to achieve with WebDAV or Web Folders.
What is Blackboard Drive you ask? A picture or a video in this case, is worth 1000 words, so check out these product videos to better understand what Blackboard Drive is and how it works.
I also put together this 10 minute recording that talks about the workflow challenges that existed before Blackboard Drive and how it will improve the user experience. Watch it now
After you take a look at these resources, I think you will agree that Blackboard Drive is going to make a big difference for end users as well as making it easier to support and train educators on using the Blackboard Learn Content Management module.
We haven’t forgotten Administrators and IT staff who need to deploy and support Blackboard drive, so, we have provided some great resources about product features in an Administrator toolkit to help you get started and successfully deploy Blackboard drive to your users.
Speaking for the Content Management team, we are all really excited to offer our clients Blackboard Drive. We hope that users will love the experience and ability to choose how they want to work with course, departmental or institutional files in Blackboard Learn. Oh and don’t worry about this being a Windows only tool. The release for Blackboard Drive for Mac® OSX
is planned later this year!
On a more personal note, I am very excited about this release not only because of my work on this project but also my involvement with the Xythos technology it is based on, both as product manager helping make Xythos users more efficient and as an end user of the product myself! I hope your experience is as positive as mine!
If you license Content Management and are on Release 9.1 SP4 or higher, go to Behind the Blackboard
for instructions on how to get Blackboard Drive to try it yourself. Let us know what you think!
