As we approach the end of 2017, we’re taking a look back at our major initiatives and success stories over the past 12 months.

First and foremost, this year marked Blackboard’s 20th anniversary. This was a huge milestone for us and one that we are continuing to celebrate. As our CEO Bill Ballhaus reflected in his blog post:

“We have gone through a unique journey over the past two decades, and with that built a distinct position in the market. We have a global footprint, a broad and deep portfolio that is unmatched in the market, and a unique potential to broadly impact the education community and learners around the globe.  We also have developed a close and long-term relationship with our clients as we have been on this journey together.”

This year Blackboard brought great innovation throughout our product portfolio, with many new enhancements and launches, including major updates for Blackboard Learn, the rollout of Learn SaaS in Europe, the launch and the growing interest for Blackboard Ally, the global availability of Blackboard Instructor, and the Blackboard eTeacher certification programme.

We are also excited about our growing momentum around the world: from the renewal of our partnerships in Europe with Middlesex University and Utrecht University, or the great implementation at Lund University’s Faculty of Law, to name a few, to the momentum in Brazil and the Spanish-speaking countries in South America and the Caribbean, where we signed and renewed dozen of partnerships with leading institutions.

In this past year there were a number of major events across the world that brought our company leaders closer to our clients, allowing us to build and nurture our partnerships with you. Starting in March, we hosted the eighth edition of our Teaching and Learning Conference Europe in Milan (Italy), and soon after it was the time for the “Fórum de Lideranças – Desafios da Educação” executive forum in São Paulo (Brazil).

In July, thousands of educators, administrators and education thought leaders from over 25 countries gathered in New Orleans (USA) for BbWorld, our biggest event, and at the beginning of September educators and learning technologists from Australia and New Zealand convened in Darwin (Australia) for the Teaching and Learning Conference ANZ. At this event, we announced the availability of the Djambarrpuyŋu version of Blackboard Collaborate, developed in partnership with Charles Darwin University and a team of Djambarrpuyŋu speakers and translators. Djambarrpuyŋu is one of several languages that make up the Yolŋu Matha group of languages spoken by the people of East Arnhem Land, in northern Australia.

In October we welcomed our clients to Singapore for the Teaching and Learning Conference Asia and in November we hosted the “Desafíos de la Educación” Education Forum in Buenos Aires (Argentina) gathering the main companies and institutions of higher education in Latin America.

As 2017 comes to an end, we are gearing up for another successful year ahead. We recently announced the dates for the Teaching and Learning Conference Europe, 9-12 April in Manchester (UK), BbWorld, 16-19 July in Orlando (US), and the Teaching and Learning Conference ANZ, 28-31 August in Brisbane (AU). Soon you will receive the call for papers to submit your success story and have the opportunity to present at our events and share the insights and the great results you achieved at your institutions. Of course, this is just the beginning; stay tuned for more!

We wish you all happy holidays and a fantastic 2018.
