Do More with Digital Content in Blackboard Learn

Access to digital content is becoming increasingly important in higher education. Students expect the same level of performance and flexibility from campus book stores that they experience with all of their other online content – music, photographs and videos. During BbWorld 2010, Blackboard announced a new partnership with Follett Higher Education Group to enable educators and learners to access Follett’s CaféScribe eBook platform from within the Blackboard Learn™ platform via the free Follett CaféScribe Blackboard Building Block™.  For the first time, students can now find, buy, use and discuss digital books within their course management system environment.

CaféScribe is a digital textbook and social networking platform designed specifically for education, with features such as highlighting, note-taking, auto-summarizing, search, note-sharing and read aloud.  Users can also interact in study groups and collaborate on projects. The Building Block is available now for institution’s running Blackboard Learn, Release 8.0 or higher, and bundled in Blackboard Learn, Release 9.1.

Blackboard and Follett Higher Education Group share a goal to help learners meet the full and varied scope of their academic needs by delivering digital course content to them when and where they study, work and collaborate with their classmates. The CaféScribe integration helps streamline the way educators assign e-textbooks, and makes it easy for learners to access CaféScribe.com from within the Blackboard course environment, purchase their assigned materials and use them on their laptop, desktop or netbook using the free MyScribe eReader software. More information about CaféScribe and the Blackboard Learn integration is available at www.blackboard.com/CafeScribe.
