Blackboard Symposium 2011 (Berlin, Germany)

In the run-up to the Online Educa Berlin, Blackboard is planning a symposium for 29 November 2011 from 10:30-17:00 titled «What students in the digital age demand: educational quality and innovative services». The symposium is a full-day pre-conference cross-solution event focused on the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) with both client and Blackboard presentations. As a result of this focus, the great majority of the presentations will be in German. The symposium provides an excellent opportunity to learn how Blackboard supports its clients to meet the current demands of students as a result of the increasing digitalization in higher education. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany) provides insights into their motivation to expand their eLearning offer with Blackboard Mobile Learn and Blackboard Mobile Central, thereby offering innovative services to their students. In addition, the TeleLearn-Akademie (Germany) shares their experience regarding the use of web conferencing and instant messaging among the student community as well as between students and professors. Finally, the University of Salzburg (Austria) will explain how lecturers have been successfully using SafeAssign for five years to detect possible plagiarism. The keynote will be given by Prof. Dr. Apostolopoulos, the Head of the Competence Center for eLearning, eScience and Multimedia of the Freie Universität Berlin (CeDiS). In his keynote titled,The future of eLearning Centers in academia, Prof. Dr. Apostolopoulos will address the embedment of eLearning in academia and the main function of eLearning Centers. He will continue by analyzing the roles that other parties within the world of academia (such as media centers, libraries and computer centers) play with regards to eLearning. He will conclude his keynote with a prognosis on the future development of eLearning Centers.
