Today we announce the launch of a new MOOC powered by the CourseSites Open Course Series, Designing an Exemplary Course.
If you’re not familiar with the term MOOC (Massive Online Open Course), read on to learn how the latest (free) trend in Professional Development can impact your classroom instantly.
The newest addition to the CourseSites Open Course Series centers around the Exemplary Course Program (ECP) Rubric, which is a useful guide created by distinguished educators and instructional designers that will empower you to improve your online teaching experience. Whether you are just getting started or are an advanced online educator, this course will provide you with a framework to help identify and disseminate best practices for designing engaging online courses. But you will not be alone in your journey!
Over the next 5 weeks, you will have the opportunity to hear from 11 instructors and instructional designers including distinguished Exemplary Course Program Directors and several of the 2012 Exemplary Course Program winners. Using the Blackboard rubric as a guide, each week’s presenters will focus on one of the four critical elements of a course: course design, interaction and collaboration, assessment, and learner support. You will have an opportunity to attend the weekly live sessions or listen to the recordings.
We encourage all levels of interaction in the course. For those you want to have a more engaged experience, you will have the opportunity to complete optional assignments each week and work in groups for a personalized experience. We have over 60 course reviewers standing by to review your assignments and provide you with personalized feedback. Don’t be afraid to get in the action yourself! The course format encourages peer to peer feedback and opportunities to network with others with similar interests. You can earn a badge to reflect your completion of course requirements!
Take this opportunity to learn from the experts and from your peers. The MOOC will empower you to implement at least one change in your course and then measure the impact that it has on your students and their learning outcomes. When you do, tell us via twitter with the official hash tag for the course #BbECP. We love hearing your stories!
Don’t just take it from us! Check out Dr. Torria Bond’s video below. Tori is the lead instructional designer for the course!
