K-12 Report: Meeting the Need for High Quality Teachers

As K-12 school districts and states in the U.S. strive to ensure all students are taught by not only a highly qualified but also a highly effective teacher, they face the challenge of providing all teachers with adequate professional development opportunities and meeting highly qualified-teaching requirements.

The U.S. Department of Education Secretary’s No Child Left Behind Leadership Summit has published a white paper describing how states and districts can address these challenges using e-Learning.  The report, entitled Meeting the Need for High Quality Teachers: e-Learning Solutions:

  • reviews the Highly Qualified Teacher requirements,
  • illustrates the impact of effective teachers,
  • describes the principles of effective professional development, and
  • showcases some e-Learning programs in place for educators.

The report acknowledges that meeting the teacher-quality requirements are challenging but imperative and asserts that the anywhere, anyplace nature of e-Learning is ideal for expanding professional development opportunities for all teachers.

This report confirms what many of us in the Blackboard user community already know: e-Learning is an effective and affordable method for professional development.
