Gordon Freedman, VP of Education Strategy writes,
A report on the state of K12 eLearning in California was released today by the University of California and an Ad Hoc group of the California Department of Education. Because online learning is pervasive, but not officially sanctioned in California and many other states, the report calls on policymakers to modernize education regulation. This is the suggestion of the Federal government so that the benefits of online learning can be used to help students achieve school success and college admission.

One would think I would be tired of visiting campuses. After thirty years in Higher Ed and six years with Blackboard I have visited dozens of campuses in the US, Canada and Europe. Every time I visit a campus I see something new and exciting. One of the things I have been noticing lately is the focus on the student experience through convenience and attention to the needs of the “Millennial Student.”

Earlier this Summer Blackboard hosted the 4th Annual Blackboard Building Blocks conference. More than 150 attendees enjoyed the 40+ sessions and opportunities to connect with other developers and system administrators, and have fun. Following the conference we hosted the first Blackboard Open Source Day. We asked Neal Caiden, Head, Applications, Center for Instructional Technology at Duke University, one of the organizers of the event to tell us more about the Blackboard Open Source Developers Group, its mission and why he is excited to be part of this growing community.
