BbWorld is an extraordinary event where one can learn and become familiar with the trends in education technology for communications and information. As leader in  my institution, sharing successful experiences with other universities from around the world and meeting experts of education has been of great importance to develop projects at the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia. As the challenge of quality in higher education is focused on the use of teaching and learning tools, I look forward that in 2012, I will find experiences that demonstrate innovation in education and the formation of competencies. The holidays are a wonderful time of the year to take time out of our busy schedules to give back to the community. During the first week of December, a small group from the Blackboard global marketing team spent some time giving back at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, DC. On this cold and rainy afternoon, the team spent three hours sorting through thousands of pounds of donations – including food and necessities – that are distributed to less fortunate members of the community each day. Many of our gracious colleagues even contributed their own items totaling more than 150 lbs of donations. It was a great afternoon giving our time to an organization that needed the help and truly appreciated our efforts. Last year, The Capital Area Food Bank distributed 25 million pounds of food and served more than 478,000 people in need across the DC-metro area. Blackboard looks forward to returning to the food bank to give more time to an organization in need.

Last week the K-12 marketing and sales teams delivered an Executive Symposium in partnership with the Cobb County School District, a strategic K-12 client for more than 11 years. The event featured 30+ clients and prospects and more than 30 members of Cobb County’s senior administrative staff. Blackboard organized symposia in the K-12 market have become a successful model for gathering district leaders together for a discussion of top challenges, models for accelerating online learning and how Blackboard’s host of solutions power K-12 educational opportunities. Blackboard officials learned the practical ways school systems use their platform and gathered feedback on what instructional and operational needs will need to be met in the foreseeable future. Representatives and educators engaged students from Allatoona High School Sept. 21, to gain a better understanding of how students perceive and use technology.
