Barbara_morgan I want to move briefly away from discussing e-Learning technologies and the Blackboard community of practice to mention a historical event scheduled to occur this evening:

NASA Educator Astronaut Barbara Morgan, a teacher at McCall-Donnelly Elementary School in McCall, Idaho, is scheduled to launch into space this evening with six crewmates aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

Ms. Morgan has trained as an astronaut since being selected by NASA for its Educator Astronaut Program in 1998.  Previously, she served as the back-up crew member for her friend Christa MacAuliffe – the first designated teacher in space, who was killed tragically in the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986.  During Space Shuttle Endeavor’s 11- to 14-day journey, Ms. Morgan will serve as an Educator Mission Specialist.

You can watch live footage of the launch, scheduled for 6:36 p.m. EDT, at NASA Television or read a detailed accounting at NASA’s Launch Blog.
